Chairman’s Message

Independence Park, being responsible for the premier sporting facilities in Jamaica, has to ensure that the facilities are maintained at the highest standard, assuring that both international and local events being hosted can satisfy the necessary requirements. It is therefore our desire to ensure that the facilities’ can physically satisfy current and future international specifications; and be managed efficiently and effectively. However, it must be recognized that most of the facilities were built a long time ago, beginning with the Stadium in 1962, and therefore much needs to be done to bring them up to date. The refurbishment of the sports facilities is therefore top priority, and we have identified a modernization program, for which the government has already made the commitment.
Another important desire for IPL is to expand the use of the facilities to non-sporting events, as there is greater potential for utilization and income earning ventures.
We are very proud of the numerous successful local and international events that have been hosted but are equally aware that the future will demand modern fascilities.
